The New Year plunge is a tradition started in The Netherlands which is now spreading all over the world. It started with a swim club celebrating the new year with a swim. Today, Unox/Unilever sponsor the event at many locations in Holland.
Because the water is warmer on January 1st!
Is it just fun for the sake of fun?
Yes. But we’re donating 50% of the revenue to Acreditar, a Portuguese charity who helps children with cancer.
Can I join?
Sure! You must! For details check our page about MADEIRA PLUNGE 2015 and the event page on Facebook.
All Nature Meetings levada walks will take place normally during the 2013 Madeira Rally (August 2 to 4).
The only exception is The Peaks walk (Pilgrim’s Path), on Saturday the 3rd of August, which will be walked “the-other-way-around”, from Achada do Texeira (Pico Ruivo) to Pico Arieiro.
If you’re an independent walker or if you choose to follow the rally, please keep your safety and that of others in mind at all times. Always cooperate with the rally Safety Marshals, the police, and with any member of the organization. For further info, check the RVM website and get to know their spectator safety instructions.

A conference on whale watching and another on whale protection set the tone for an event who wants to celebrate the day in 1982 when 39 governments attending the International Whaling Commission conference voted to suspend the hunting of whales.
But there’s much more to WhaleFest…
Companies from many related industries will be there with their stands. Travel and tourism, of course – after all, whales and dolphins are great natural attractions and can nowadays count active tourism companies among their greatest sponsors. But you’ll find many photography, technology or publishing companies, too.
On the side, there’ll be WhaleFest Fringe – a week filled with music, performance and arts.
If you’re visiting WhaleFest, look for Nature Meetings at the Madeira stand. We’re packing a few good surprises…
WhaleFest – 25 to 28 October 2012, in Brighton, UK. Madeira’s is stand D08, in the Durham Room on the ground floor.
