Madeira New Year Plunge 2015 by Nature Meetings

What is MADEIRA PLUNGE?

Madeira Plunge is a celebration of the New Year with a plunge in the sea at 12h00 on 1st January 2015 at Ponta Gorda / Poças do Governador swimming complex in Funchal.

That’s such a great ideia!

We couldn’t agree more!

Where does it come from?

The New Year plunge is a tradition started in The Netherlands which is now spreading all over the world. It started with a swim club celebrating the new year with a swim. Today, Unox/Unilever sponsor the event at many locations in Holland.

Why Madeira?

Because the water is warmer on January 1st!

Is it just fun for the sake of fun?

Yes. But we’re donating 50% of the revenue to Acreditar, a Portuguese charity who helps children with cancer.

The Huffington Post asked the Minube crowd to hand pick some of the world’s most unforgettable adventures and came up with a list of must-experience places for every thrill-seeker, adrenaline-junkie out there.

Madeira is of course one of the featured destinations.

Traditionally famed for its hearty wines and laid-back lifestyle, recently Madeira has been increasingly popping up on the adventure tourism radar thanks to its world-class surfing, lush interior and stunning trails along its misty volcanic ridges. The most rewarding climb is definitely Arieiro, a rocky peak whose trails take travelers through verdant eucalyptus forests to a lunar landscape high above the clouds.

Madeira Mountain Tour

Visit the highest and the easternmost points in Madeira!

As an alternative to the temporarily closed Peaks Walk, we are now offering the new Madeira Mountain Tour.

Madeira Mountain Tour is a Full Day Saturday tour that will take you to the highest and the easternmost points in Madeira.

On this tour you’ll have a chance to walk from Achada do Teixeira to Pico Ruivo (yes, the highest of the Peaks!) and back, and then hike the beautiful Ponta de São Lourenço, Madeira’s easternmost region with its (simultaneous!) views of the north and south coasts of the island, the Desertas Islands and, on clear days, of Porto Santo as well.

The total walking time is about 4h30 with a short drive between the two walks. As usual we’ll pick you up and return you to your hotel when we finish.

Madeira Islands have a new advertising campaign on the Eurosport platform (TV, internet and mobile) reaching more than 26 million people.

The goal is to promote Madeira internationally not just as a hiking destination but, more broadly, as an all year round nature tourism and active holidays destination.

Besides TV spots, there’s also a microsite with videos and pictures about the best outdoor activities in Madeira.

The Trekking video was done along some of Nature Meetings’s guided walks and at 2’20” you can even meet Gerry, our walk master! 😉
