Ribeiro Bonito (Levada do Rei)
Full Day walk
Following the Levada do Rei along the mountain, the trail starts overseeing the beautiful and picturesque agricultural fields of São Jorge and Santana. Halfway through, it penetrates the biodiversity rich native forest: among the diverse fauna and flora we can find endemic and indigenous plant and animal species such as the Til (Ocotea foetens), the Laurel (Loureiro, Laurus novocanariensis), the Vinhático (Persea indica), the Madeira Firecrest (Bis-bis, Reergulus ignicapillus maderensis), and the Madeiran Chaffinch (Tentilhão, Fringilla coelebs maderensis).
That’s how you eventually reach Ribeiro Bonito, a place of rare, staggering beauty, where – due to isolation and water abundance – the native Laurisilva forest can be found in its lushest, most genuine form!
