Monte Palace Tropical Garden picked as one of the World’s Most Beautiful Botanical Gardens.
Located in Monte, just outside Funchal, in Madeira Island, Monte Palace Tropical Garden has just been listed by Condé Nast Traveler magazine as one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world.
Formerly a hotel, Monte Palace and its garden were restored and opened to the public in 1989. The garden incorporates a famous collection of ceramic Portuguese tiles, oriental gardens with Koi ponds, and a number of water features. The plant collections include both indigenous and exotic species.
Besides the botanical garden, at Monte Palace you’ll find a unique museum with two distinct areas – one dedicated to contemporary African art, the other to minerals and gems from all over the world.
On the hills above Funchal, hides one of Madeira’s greatest treasures, and one of the world’s most amazing gardens. If you’re searching for wonder, look no further.
Madeira started March 2013 with some turbulent weather.
To all unguided walkers, including users of our partner WalkMe application, we recommend to verify weather conditions before setting out, including rain and wind forecast. If weather conditions deteriorate during the day, walkers should take measures to get back to their accommodation / safety.
For those walking with Nature Meetings, you can rest assured. Our certified mountain guides will take the best decision for our guided walks, activities and tours, based on their many years of local experience and up-to-date information.
At Nature Meetings, our guests and team’s safety is of paramount importance and our the guide’s decision is always final.

We often receive requests from visitors who want to walk alone in Madeira.
So now we’ve partnered with the young, local team behind WalkMe – a mobile app that brings Madeira levada walks to your mobile or tablet.
Available for Android and iOS (iPhone and iPad), WalkMe was developed locally and aims to “unleash your explorer’s spirit and help you discover the natural wonders of Madeira Island!”
WalkMe includes more than 30 trails in Madeira, among which some of Madeira most iconic levada walks, such as Queimadas – Caldeirão Verde and The Peaks.
WalkMe wants to provide their customers access to top quality information about Madeira levada walks. Thus, every levada trail on WalkMe which Nature Meetings offers as a guided walk links directly to our website’s walk description for extra info.
For many good reasons, we believe you should always walk with a professional, certified mountain guide. Still, if you choose otherwise, WalkMe will keep you in very good company.
