Forest fires over the city of Funchal which started 18 July 2012 are now under control, according to the Civil Protection authorities – our thoughts are with all those directly affected by this tragedy.
The fires are located at various points of the island and some recommended walks and roads have been closed. We urge all visitors and walkers who are using unguided tours to visit the Civil Protection website for updated information.
For Nature Meetings, our clients safety is paramount. At the present time, our operation has not been affected. If we are forced to change any of our walks or tours, we will share that information through our website and directly with our clients.
Another great article about Madeira by El Mundo’s ocholeguas.
More fantastic images of Madeira. This time we bring you Magnificent Madeira by Pavel Masek – a sequel of Magnificent Berchtesgaden. Just a piece of this faboulous island caught by Canon 5DmkII with 24-105IS (that time without IS). Thank you so much, Pavel!
Funchal, in Madeira Island is the best location to greet the new year with fireworks, according to the “Where to find the best of everything, worldwide” in CBS News by travel editor Peter Greenberg.
However, we see Madeira as an all year destination with an active events program!
The Atlantic Festival during June is a great opportunity to experience a sample of the New Year´s fireworks, the Madeira Wine Festival during harvest is a great opportunity to participate in harvesting and pressing grapes as well as to select a great Madeira Wine, which recently collected several important awards.
But there’s more: Mountain Biking, Diving, Whale and Dolphin observation and the unique experience of swimming with dolphins. And of course, walking with Nature Meetings!
